This album contains a rare collection of traditional costumes gathered from all over Greece in the decade of 50’s, by Dora Stratou, the founder of the omonymous theatre of folk dances in Athens.
It is a collection that gives to the reader a very accurate conception of the whole costume with all its accessories, with the exact comments on all the details. Each costume is shown entirely by a color picture in one page and the comments in another.
A book very valuable to all those who want to study the Greek costumes, the occasion that was worn and all the parts that was composed off, with their traditional names.
It is highly unusual for a theatre to present its costumes in a book. Τhe theatre copies-costumes, like stage settings, are designed and made to serve performance; thus the spectator sees them as an integral part of the whole presentation. These costumes alone have nothing to say because they were made for the stage and not to be worn outside of it.
